After being asked to perform at the Gerde’s Folk City 50th year tribute and then play with the incredible David Amram. Amram then asked McEuen to join him after their Gerdes turn at the famed Cornelia Street Cafe for a show of his – all in NYC’s Greenwich Village. McEuen said “it was like going back in time to a space I wanted to be in as a beginning player – running around the Village from club to club sitting in, to little packed rooms full of people eager to hear music, and them liking what I do.”
As Amram had joined John’s show at Levon Helm’s 70th birthday in Woodstock in May (then they both sat in on Levon’s 3 hour set), McEuen now said “David, now you owe me one!” and invited him to join him on his Infinity Hall appearance June 30 in Norfolk, Ct.. So, come catch David Amram dazzling the audience with his flutes, piano, percussion toys and stories, along with his cohort in music, John McEuen, at 8 pm on June 30 in Norfolk, Ct. It brings back the best part of the old daze with a couple of the best players and performers you can find.
(McEuen just won a Grammy for his production of The Crow – Steve Martin – new songs for the 5 string banjo, on which he used Amram to add his unique talents; John is being honored in October with the Best of the West Performer Award by the Folk Alliance organization – come find out why!.)
Information on David Amram can be found at: www.davidamram.com
He is a contemporary of Jack Kerouac, a symphony composer and conductor (his music has been conducted by Leonard Berstein), raconteur, multi-instrumentalist (French horn to penny whistle, piano to Turkish instruments and percussion) and, as John says of the 78 year old master musician: “He is the oldest teenager I know! That he played with Dizzy Gillespie and all those others .. and joins me?!, that makes my day.. “
Don’t miss John McEuen with special guest David Amram w/ opener Christopher Robin on JUNE 30th! This will be a great show! –Tickets–
